Influence
A tribute to my junior high school art teacher, mentor and friend, Kenneth M. Quinn. The plumb-line is a recurring element in many of his own works, especially his assemblage constructions created from found materials. Here it represents the mark he impressed upon countless students through his investment and influence toward the development of the many phases of their young lives – not just in art. The triangular wooden form represents myself and how I have hovered under that mark since the day I met him.
I donated this work to him and Mississippi College where he was bestowed an honorary doctorate degree for his 15 years of service there as a professor, after 33 years of teaching at Whitten Junior High School in Jackson, MS.
